Spit Braai Catering › Spit Braai in Paarl

Spit Braai in Paarl

Book a spit braai in Paarl from R150 a head for lamb. Paarl runs hotter than anywhere else we cook, so the chef lights up earlier, the spit stands in shade and the carving lands before the worst of the afternoon. Whole lamb, pork or chicken, garlic potatoes and rolls, carved to order by the chef who cooked it.

An estimate, not a quote. Minimum 25 guests. Salads (from R15 a head), extra service staff (R850 each) and cutlery and crockery (R15–R25 a head) go on top, and travel is free within 30km, then R500–R1 500 by distance. Nothing is sent until you tap through.

Spit braai catering in Paarl

Paarl is a Winelands run rather than a home fixture: most of the town sits 35 to 50km from our Durbanville base, so the day is planned backwards from your serving time and travel is R500–R800, shown on the quote as its own line. R150 per person for a whole lamb covers the chef on site for the whole five to seven hour cook, the spit, the meat, garlic potatoes, rolls, the carving and the clear-up.

Pork is R129 a head and chicken R116, from 25 guests. The farms out toward Simondium and Windmeul can sit past 50km, where travel moves to R1 000–R1 500. The address decides it, and you see the figure before you commit.

The Paarl heat decides the running order

Paarl is one of the hottest towns in the Western Cape, and a January afternoon in the valley regularly passes 35°C. Heat changes a spit braai in two ways. The chef stands at a fire for six hours, so the spit goes under the gazebo or in the shade of a building, never in the open middle of a lawn. And carved meat and sides cannot stand on a buffet through the hottest part of the day, so a summer Paarl booking gets lit earlier and carved for lunch or for the evening rather than for three in the afternoon. That gets built into the quote, not discovered on the day.

Val de Vie, Pearl Valley and the estate bookings

A large share of the bigger Paarl functions happen behind an estate gate — Val de Vie, Pearl Valley, Boschenmeer, Groot Parys. Estates of that size run their own contractor rules: vehicle and driver details lodged at the gate in advance, set hours for deliveries, and the estate's own conditions on an open fire. A trailer at an unexpecting boom costs an hour, so all of it is settled at quote stage, along with where the spit is allowed to stand.

Drakenstein, and the fire season

Paarl falls under Drakenstein Municipality, together with Wellington, Mbekweni and the farms around Simondium and Windmeul. The Winelands fire season runs roughly December to April, which lands on the busiest wedding and year-end months. On a high-risk day a wine farm or an estate can restrict open coals, and the venue's answer decides the setup — so we ask before quoting, and arrange a contained setup in advance where open coals are not permitted.

R150 per person for a whole lamb, from 25 guests — R7 500 for fifty and R15 000 for a hundred, plus R500–R800 travel from Durbanville. Pork is R129 a head and chicken R116.

Do you charge travel to Paarl?

Can you cater at Val de Vie or Pearl Valley?

Yes. Send the estate name with your enquiry so the gate registration and the estate's fire conditions are settled at quote stage, not in the week of the event.

Do you cover Mbekweni, Groenheuwel and Paarl East?

Yes, along with the rest of the list above, all at the same rate. Send the address if yours is not on it and we will tell you straight away.
