Spit Braai Catering, Atlantic Seaboard & City Bowl
Sea Point, Green Point, Camps Bay, Clifton, Gardens, Tamboerskloof, Woodstock and Hout Bay. Here the question is rarely whether we can cater it and almost always whether there is three metres of level ground for the fire, and somewhere to stand a vehicle while it comes off.

Spit braai catering on the Atlantic Seaboard and in the City Bowl
Sea Point, Green Point, Camps Bay, Clifton, Bantry Bay, Fresnaye, the Waterfront, Gardens, Tamboerskloof, Oranjezicht, Vredehoek, Woodstock, Observatory and Hout Bay. This is the part of Cape Town where the question is not whether we can cater it, but whether there is somewhere to put the fire.
The two things that decide it here
Three metres of ground, not a balcony
A spit needs roughly three metres square of level ground, out of heavy wind, on a surface that is not a wooden deck. Plenty of Seaboard and City Bowl properties are apartments or terraced houses with no ground-level space at all. A roof terrace usually will not work; a courtyard, a driveway or a communal garden usually will. Send a photo with the enquiry and we will tell you straight away.
Loading and parking
Sea Point, Green Point and Camps Bay have almost no casual loading space, and the Waterfront and City Bowl have access control. We need somewhere to stand a vehicle while the equipment comes off, and a bay for the trailer during the cook. If the building has a service entrance or a basement bay, that is what we want to know about.
Wind, which is worse here than people expect
The south-easter accelerates over Signal Hill and funnels through Camps Bay and Clifton from about October to March. On an exposed terrace it will make a spit fire genuinely difficult to hold steady. We bring shelter and set up on the lee side, but an exposed Seaboard site in February is the one place we will suggest moving the fire rather than fighting it.
What we need on site
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| About three metres square, level, on ground rather than a wooden deck | The spit and the fire stand there for five to seven hours |
| Vehicle access within carrying distance | The frame, motor and coals come off the vehicle |
| Somewhere to stand the vehicle during the cook | The equipment stays on site all day |
| A tap | Cleaning down. No power is needed — the spit runs on coals and its own gas |
Work out what your spit braai costs
R9 00050 guests × R180 a head, all in — chef, equipment, cooking, carving and clear-up included.
An estimate, not a quote — travel beyond about 60km and extra sides are quoted separately. Nothing is sent until you tap through.
Every area we cook in
If your area is on this list, travel is included and the rate is the same R180 a head. The thing to check first is whether there is ground-level space for the fire.
Places people mix up
Woodstock, Salt River and Observatory are City Bowl fringe, not Southern Suburbs, though they get filed both ways. Hout Bay is reached along the Atlantic Seaboard but is a valley of its own, and the timing is planned around Chapman’s Peak and Constantia Nek rather than the distance.
Nothing matches that. We may still cover it — send us the address and we will tell you straight away.

Atlantic Seaboard and City Bowl questions
Can you do a spit braai at an apartment?
Yes, but only where there is ground-level space — a courtyard, a driveway, a communal lawn. Not on a balcony or a wooden roof deck. Send a photo and we will give you a straight answer before you book anything.
Is there a travel charge to Hout Bay?
No. Hout Bay is inside the included band. Timing is planned around the Constantia Nek and Chapman’s Peak routes, which matters more than the distance does.
What does it cost on the Seaboard?
R180 per person, the same as anywhere else inside the band — see packages and prices, and the spit braai menu for what is served.
Do you cater at the Waterfront?
Yes, where the venue allows outside catering and open-flame cooking. Both need checking with the venue first — ask them before you ask us, because that is the answer that decides it.
