Spit Braai Packages & Prices
R180 per person, all in - one rate for lamb, pork or chicken, and the same rate for halaal. That covers the chef, the equipment, the cook, the carving and the clear-up, not just the meat. Fifty guests is R9 000 and a hundred is R18 000. Work yours out below, then send it through in one tap.

What a spit braai costs in Cape Town
R180 per person, all in. One rate — lamb, pork or chicken, halaal or not. It includes the chef, the equipment, the cook, the carving and the pack-down, not just the meat.
What the braai package covers
Other Cape Town caterers quote braai packages in tiers — bronze, silver, gold, or a per-head figure that turns out to be meat only. There is one Spit Braai Pro package and this is everything in it:
- The chef — on site for the full five to seven hour cook, not dropped off with the equipment
- The meat — whole lamb, whole pork or chicken, sourced, prepped and marinated the day before
- The spit, the coals, gas where it is needed, and every bit of cooking equipment
- Two sides and fresh rolls, chosen by you — the full list is on the spit braai menu
- Carving and serving to order at the station
- Pack-down and removal of everything the same night
No call-out fee, no separate chef fee, no charge to quote, and no surcharge for halaal or for a public holiday. If a braai package you are comparing us against is cheaper per head, the useful question is which of those six lines it leaves out.
Work out what your spit braai costs
R9 00050 guests × R180 a head, all in — chef, equipment, cooking, carving and clear-up included.
An estimate, not a quote — travel beyond about 60km and extra sides are quoted separately. Nothing is sent until you tap through.
What moves the price
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| The meat | Does not move it. Whole lamb, pork or chicken all sit at R180 — pick on taste, not price. |
| Halaal | Does not move it. No surcharge, same R180. |
| Headcount | Does not move the per-head rate. It sets the minimum: below about 25 guests a spit stops making sense. |
| Extra sides | Two sides and rolls are included. A full salad table or a third and fourth side is quoted on top. |
| Travel | Included across greater Cape Town. Beyond about 60km from the city a travel charge applies. |
What is always included: the chef for the full cook, the spit and all cooking equipment, coals, meat prepped and marinated the day before, carving and serving, and removal of everything afterwards. No call-out fee, and no charge to quote.
Roughly what that means
At a flat R180 a head the arithmetic is the arithmetic. These are the numbers people ask for most often:
| Guests | Total | What it looks like |
|---|---|---|
| 25 | R4 500 | Our practical minimum — one spit, one chef |
| 30 | R5 400 | A garden birthday or a small function |
| 50 | R9 000 | One whole lamb, two sides, rolls |
| 100 | R18 000 | Typical wedding or year-end headcount |
| 150 | R27 000 | Two spits and two chefs from about here |
| 200 | R36 000 | Two spits, two chefs, staggered carving |
Every one of those is a starting point, not a quote. Send us the date, the number and the place and we will give you a fixed figure in writing.
What is not included
Crockery, cutlery, glassware, tables and staff to serve are not part of the R180 — most venues and marquee hires supply those, and we would rather not charge you twice for them. Alcohol and a bar service are not ours either. Everything to do with the fire, the meat and the carving is. If you only want the equipment, see spit braai hire.
Spit braai for R100 per person — is that a thing?
Short answer: not for chef-run catering in Cape Town. The cheapest advertised rate in the city for the meat on its own is around R145 a head, so R100 all in does not reach. We have set out the market rates, the arithmetic and what an under-R100 quote is usually leaving out on spit braai for R100 per person.
Pricing questions
How much is a spit braai per person?
R180 per person, all in. That is the same figure for a whole lamb, a pork spit or chicken, and the same figure for halaal — the meat you choose does not move the price.
Is the chef included in that price?
Yes. There is no separate chef fee — the chef is the service, so charging extra for one would be strange.
Do you charge a deposit?
Yes. A deposit secures the date, with the balance due close to the event. Exact terms come with your quote.
What is the minimum spend?
Practically, around 25 guests. Below that the economics of a whole spit stop making sense and you are better off with a standard braai.
Is there a charge to quote?
No. Quotes are free and we do not need to visit the site first for a normal booking.
