How bookings usually run here

Halls and clubs as often as gardens

A large share of what we cook this side is at a community hall, a sports club or a church grounds rather than a private garden. That suits a spit: the fire goes outside where there is room, and the carving station comes to the door. What we need from the venue is a level outdoor area of roughly three metres square, vehicle access, and a tap.

The trailer during the cook

The equipment stays on site for five to seven hours. Somewhere sensible to stand the vehicle and trailer, ideally inside a gate or in view of the function, is worth arranging when you book rather than on the day. We ask about it every time, everywhere in the city.

Big numbers

Funerals, church functions and family gatherings this side regularly run past 150 guests, which is two spits and two chefs with staggered carving. That is a planning question, not a price one — the per-head rate does not change with the headcount.

Every area we cook in

If your area is on this list, travel is included and the rate is the same R180 a head. No surcharge, and no separate travel charge.

Places people mix up

Mitchells Plain, Khayelitsha and Gugulethu are separate towns, not one area. Blue Downs, Eerste River and Mfuleni are Metro South-East, and get mis-filed under the Northern Suburbs because of the Kuils River boundary.

Cape Flats and Metro South-East questions

Do you charge more to cater in Mitchells Plain or Khayelitsha?

No. R180 per person, travel included, exactly as everywhere else inside the band.

Can you cater at a community hall or sports club?

Yes, and a good deal of our work this side is exactly that. We need a level outdoor spot about three metres square, vehicle access and a tap. The fire never goes indoors.

Can you handle 200 guests?

Yes — two spits, two chefs and staggered carving from about 150 upward. See packages and prices for what that costs.
